Dynasty ADP Showdown: Who Would You Rather Draft? I CouchScouts Podcast Ep. 140

Aug 24
4 min read

Dynasty startup ADP creates some uncomfortable decisions when two players from the same tier are sitting on the board. From Puka Nacua vs. Amon-Ra St. Brown to Patrick Mahomes vs. Trevor Lawrence, we broke down which side we prefer based on film, age, situation, production and long-term value.

The biggest theme: don't let a better situation outweigh better talent—and don't automatically choose the younger player just because it's dynasty.

Episode Timestamps

  • 1:12 – Puka Nacua vs. Amon-Ra St. Brown

  • 5:38 – Malik Nabers vs. Justin Jefferson

  • 10:05 – Patrick Mahomes vs. Trevor Lawrence

  • 16:11 – Kenneth Walker III vs. Breece Hall

  • 26:16 – Marvin Harrison Jr. vs. Makai Lemon

Puka Nacua vs. Amon-Ra St. Brown: Razor-Thin Dynasty Decision

There isn't a wrong answer here.

Both are elite target earners attached to productive offenses, but Puka Nacua won our vote 2-1. His slight age advantage and higher fantasy ceiling were enough to give him the edge.

The concern with Nacua is long-term uncertainty surrounding Matthew Stafford and some of the off-field questions that have surfaced. Amon-Ra arguably offers more stability as Detroit's clear centerpiece.

CouchScouts Pick: Puka Nacua

If someone is willing to give you Amon-Ra plus an additional asset for Puka, however, that's exactly the type of dynasty tier-down we'd consider.

Malik Nabers vs. Justin Jefferson: Youth Wins the Dynasty Tiebreaker

This matchup becomes much easier in redraft: Justin Jefferson is the safer choice for 2026.

Dynasty is different.

Nabers is roughly four years younger and already showed that he can command elite volume when healthy. There are legitimate concerns surrounding his recovery from the knee injury, but the combination of his talent, age and potential connection with Jackson Dart gives him the long-term edge.

Jefferson remains an elite receiver, and a bounce-back season with improved quarterback play wouldn't surprise us at all.

But in a fresh dynasty startup?

CouchScouts Pick: Malik Nabers

Patrick Mahomes Is Being Undervalued

Patrick Mahomes versus Trevor Lawrence produced one of the easiest decisions of the episode.

Lawrence deserves credit for his strong finish and has an impressive collection of weapons around him. The problem is that we're comparing a relatively short stretch of elite production to years of evidence from Mahomes.

Even during what was viewed as a disappointing stretch, Mahomes continued providing high-end fantasy production. Before his injury, his 2025 points-per-game numbers were back near the top of the position.

The injury creates some risk, but an ADP around QB10 feels like a buying opportunity.

CouchScouts Pick: Patrick Mahomes

Lawrence's dynasty value isn't necessarily too high. Mahomes' value may simply be too low.

Breece Hall vs. Kenneth Walker: Bet on Talent Over Situation

Kenneth Walker landing in Kansas City has pushed his dynasty value upward.

We aren't ready to put him over Breece Hall.

Walker has the better offense, but Hall has been the superior fantasy producer and offers more receiving upside. Hall's situation with the Jets isn't exciting, but dynasty managers can get into trouble when they project a major value jump based entirely on a new landing spot.

Everything we're expecting from Walker in Kansas City is still a projection.

We already know what Hall can do.

CouchScouts Pick: Breece Hall

This is a good example of a core scouting principle: when the values are close, bet on the player you believe is more talented.

Marvin Harrison Jr. vs. Makai Lemon: Floor vs. Ceiling

This may have been the most fascinating dynasty decision of the show.

Makai Lemon enters the league with a strong opportunity in Philadelphia, especially with A.J. Brown no longer in the picture. His route-running ability and yards-after-catch skill set give him a path toward immediate fantasy relevance.

Marvin Harrison Jr. is different.

His first two seasons haven't matched expectations, and another disappointing year could crush his dynasty value. There is almost no value insulation left.

But the film evaluation that made Harrison an elite prospect hasn't completely disappeared either.

If a new coaching staff can unlock him and he stays healthy, Harrison still has the talent to make a major jump back up dynasty rankings.

CouchScouts Pick: Marvin Harrison Jr., 2-1

Lemon has the safer value profile. Harrison still has the ceiling we're willing to bet on one more time.

Late-Round ADP Targets: Swift and Parker Washington

The later rounds produced two more important dynasty decisions.

DeAndre Swift was the unanimous choice over David Montgomery. Swift is younger, offers more ways to produce fantasy points and appears to have the cleaner path to usable RB2 production.

The final matchup was Parker Washington vs. DK Metcalf, where Washington won 2-1.

Washington averaged nearly 15 fantasy points per game over the second half of last season and developed into one of Trevor Lawrence's most productive targets. Jacksonville's receiver room is crowded, but Washington is a young asset trending upward.

Metcalf is moving in the opposite direction.

At this stage of a startup, we're willing to take the younger player with increasing value.

Final Dynasty Takeaway

ADP should tell you where players are being drafted—not who you have to draft.

In several of these matchups, the market is placing two players almost side by side even though their dynasty profiles are very different. That's where film evaluation and roster construction become important.

Our biggest preferences from this ADP showdown:

Puka Nacua over Amon-Ra St. BrownMalik Nabers over Justin JeffersonPatrick Mahomes over Trevor LawrenceBreece Hall over Kenneth Walker IIIMarvin Harrison Jr. over Makai Lemon

When you're on the clock in a dynasty startup, don't simply follow ADP. Use it to identify the decision, then bet on talent, opportunity and the profile you believe can retain—or increase—its value.
