Dynasty value can change fast. A few big weeks can turn a discounted veteran into a league-winning piece, while a slow start can send even young players tumbling down dynasty rankings.
This week on CouchScouts, we broke down six of the most volatile players entering the 2026 season — players who could either dramatically increase their dynasty value or become major sell candidates by the end of the year.

Kyler Murray: One More Elite Fantasy Run?
Kyler Murray might have one of the widest ranges of outcomes at quarterback this season.
The upside starts with his new situation. Murray now gets Kevin O'Connell, Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, giving him one of the strongest supporting casts of his career. When Murray has stayed healthy in the past, he has consistently shown the ability to produce as a high-end fantasy quarterback.
The concern is whether his recent decline continues.
Murray was benched for Jacoby Brissett last season, and another disappointing year could cause his dynasty value to fall quickly.
Dynasty Outlook: BOOM
There is legitimate top-five to top-seven quarterback upside here. If his dynasty price still reflects last year's disappointment, Murray could be one of the better veteran quarterback values available.
Jonathan Brooks: The Ultimate Post-Hype Running Back?
Jonathan Brooks is finally getting the opportunity dynasty managers have been waiting for.
We loved his Texas tape and had Brooks as our RB1 in his rookie class with a first-round rookie grade. Unfortunately, injuries have prevented us from seeing whether that talent can translate to the NFL.
With Chuba Hubbard dealing with an injury, Brooks has an opening.
If he looks like the explosive runner we evaluated at Texas, there is a real scenario where Brooks takes control of the Carolina backfield and becomes a valuable young dynasty asset.
The downside is just as real. If the explosiveness never fully returns and Hubbard eventually reclaims the starting job, the current excitement around Brooks could end up being a sell window.
Dynasty Outlook: HOLD / CONDITIONAL BUY
The talent is worth betting on, but don't pay as if the breakout has already happened.
A.J. Brown: One More WR1 Season?
A.J. Brown is exactly the type of veteran dynasty contenders should be watching.
After finishing as the WR11 in PPR formats last season, Brown moves to New England and gets Drake Maye at quarterback. At 29, his long-term dynasty value is naturally becoming more fragile, but the short-term ceiling remains massive.
A 1,300-yard, double-digit-touchdown season is still within his range of outcomes.
The risk is simple: once an older receiver begins declining, dynasty managers react quickly. Another down season could dramatically reduce Brown's trade value.
Dynasty Outlook: BOOM
For rebuilding teams, Brown may be a sell. For contenders, he remains the type of veteran who can help win a championship over the next one or two seasons.
Rashee Rice: Elite Upside, Massive Risk
Rashee Rice may be the most volatile player on this entire list.
When he has been available, the fantasy production has been impressive. Rice averaged 7.5 yards after catch per reception while carrying only a 4.3-yard average depth of target — usage that allowed Kansas City to manufacture touches and let him create after the catch.
The upside is obvious.
He is still young, still connected to Patrick Mahomes and still has top-five fantasy receiver upside if everything comes together.
But there are major concerns surrounding his availability, health and off-field situation. Those variables make projecting his long-term dynasty value extremely difficult.
Dynasty Outlook: BUST
At the right price, the upside is worth considering. But we're not aggressively buying unless the discount becomes significant.
David Montgomery: Can Volume Keep Him Relevant?
David Montgomery has been a productive fantasy running back for years, but his profile looks much different entering 2026.
Now 29 and playing in Houston, Montgomery could still have value if he receives the majority of the Texans' goal-line work. A season around 1,000 rushing yards and double-digit touchdowns would make him a useful piece for contenders.
The concern is whether dynasty managers are assuming too much.
Montgomery has accumulated a lot of NFL touches, has historically relied heavily on touchdowns and could lose receiving work and carries to Woody Marks.
If Houston struggles offensively, the touchdowns that Montgomery needs may not be there consistently.
Dynasty Outlook: BUST
Montgomery can still help a contender, but we would not value him as a guaranteed RB2.
TreVeyon Henderson: The Best Buy-Low Candidate?
TreVeyon Henderson may have the highest ceiling of anyone discussed.
His explosiveness jumped off the college film, and we still believe in the talent. The problem is that Rhamondre Stevenson isn't going away as easily as dynasty managers hoped.
Stevenson remains a good NFL running back with strong contact balance, receiving ability and pass protection. New England could continue using a significant committee rather than immediately handing Henderson the backfield.
That could frustrate fantasy managers early.
But Henderson doesn't need 25 touches to make an impact. His big-play ability gives him the chance to turn 15 touches into a huge fantasy week.
If Henderson owners panic after a slow start, there could be an excellent dynasty buy window.
Dynasty Outlook: BOOM
The breakout may not happen immediately, but Henderson remains the player on this list we would most want to buy if his price drops during the season.
Final Takeaway
The goal with boom-or-bust players isn't to avoid risk completely. It's to determine whether the market is pricing that risk correctly.
Our favorite boom candidates are Kyler Murray, A.J. Brown and TreVeyon Henderson, while Rashee Rice and David Montgomery carry more downside than we are comfortable paying for at current expectations.
Jonathan Brooks falls somewhere in the middle. The talent is there, but 2026 will finally show us whether injuries have changed the player we loved coming out of Texas.
