Route Running & Release

Makai Lemon and Carnell Tate are stylistically different off the line. Lemon is incredibly well-rounded in the short-to-intermediate game, earning an 8.5 grade, but he occasionally gets bullied by press coverage, as seen in his tape against Notre Dame. Tate, on the other hand, operates with remarkable fluidity and zero wasted motion. He earned a 9 for his deep route running and uses a more physical, "bully ball" release to beat press, securing a slight overall edge in this category.

Ball Skills & Catch Radius

This is where the gap between the two prospects widens. Tate is a menace at the catch point, earning perfect 10s (described as "Larry Fitzgerald-esque") for both hands and contested catch ability. The data backs up the film: Tate posted a staggering 0% drop rate and an 85.7% contested catch rate on 14 targets. Lemon’s ball skills remain elite—earning 8s for hands and contested catch—but his smaller catch radius (graded a 6) limits his ability to extend for the ball compared to Tate.

Physicality & Frame

Despite standing 6'2", Tate has a slender frame at just 192 pounds, making him lighter than the 3-inch shorter Lemon. However, Tate plays bigger than his weight suggests. He consistently drives defenders backward as a run blocker and fights through contact on his routes, earning a solid 7.5 grade for functional physicality. Combined with 97th/98th percentile hands and long arms, Tate's length overwhelms defenders at the point of attack.

The Verdict While Lemon offers a high floor as an underneath PPR asset, Tate's flawless, "teach tape" ball skills and refined deep route running solidify him as the superior outside threat.
