Recliner Rating:

VISION/PATIENCE

Randall struggled with vision and decisiveness behind the line of scrimmage. He does a solid job of remaining patient and following his blocks, but when holes do not naturally develop, he lacks the ability to manipulate defenders or create yardage on his own. It is worth noting that this was his first year playing running back, and he showed noticeable improvement as the season progressed.

POWER/CONTACT BALANCE

Randall possesses good power, particularly in speed-to-power situations. However, he lacks high-end contact balance to consistently break tackles, and plays with poor pad level. As a very vertical runner, he is unable to fully leverage the power he does have on a consistent basis.

3RD DOWN SKILLSET

As a converted wide receiver, Randall saw creative usage from Clemson, lining up in the slot and out wide. He flashes nice ball skills, adjusting to passes that throw him open or off-target throws. However, he also had some disappointing drops, and his route tree remained limited, making this area underwhelming overall. In pass protection, his technique is still raw, but he showed a willingness to engage and compete for his quarterback.

ATHLETICISM

Randall is an enticing athlete with very good north-south acceleration that allows him to explode through holes and eliminate pursuit angles from safeties. His top-end speed is also a strength, and he is able to break away for long runs and is rarely caught from behind once he reaches the open field.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

He brings intriguing linear athleticism and power to the position, but limitations in pad level and contact balance make it difficult to project him as a true every-down power back at the next level. With only one year of experience at running back, his best football is likely still ahead of him. He is not worth targeting in most rookie drafts unless they are extremely deep, though he could be a worthwhile waiver flier after the draft.

ELUSIVENESS

Randall is not an elusive back, though he avoids falling into the pure plodder category. His elusiveness sits slightly below average, which is largely expected given his size. He flashes the ability to decelerate and cut back to make defenders miss, but this is not a consistent or primary way he wins on tape.

IDEAL TEAM FITS

Randall would best fit in a zone running scheme where he can use his burst and one cut ability to break off chunk gains.
