RELEASE/ROUTE RUNNING

Thompson’s route running is unrefined and lacks the physicality needed to consistently beat press coverage. His short and intermediate area work often lacks sharpness and tempo, relying almost entirely on raw athleticism to create separation. However, he gets open at will deep down the field thanks to his blistering speed.

PHYSICALITY

Physicality is a significant weakness for Thompson due to his small frame—one of the smallest among incoming NFL wide receivers. Once defenders get their hands on him, he is frequently bullied off his route and out of the play.

YARDS AFTER CATCH

Despite his athleticism, Thompson’s YAC ability is limited. He lacks the physicality to consistently break tackles, and is typically brought down on first contact. That said, if he can make a defender miss, his acceleration allows him to exploit seams and turn short gains into big plays.

ATHLETICISM

Thompson is an incredible athlete and one of the fastest players in the 2026 class. He possesses elite vertical speed and effortless acceleration, making him a legitimate deep threat whenever he gets behind the defense.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

Thompson projects as a situational deep threat at the next level but is limited by his frame and inconsistent ball skills. He could be a late-round flier in in the 4th round of rookie drafts.

BALL SKILLS

Thompson’s ball skills are a mixed bag. He lacks the frame and leaping ability to win contested catches, and does not provide a large catch radius. His strongest attribute is elite ball tracking on deep passes, where he consistently adjusts to make difficult in-stride catches.

IDEAL TEAM FITS

Thompson's best team fit would be landing with an offensive coordinator that knows how to utilize his deep speed. Teams like Buffalo come to mind.
