Recliner Rating:

RELEASE/ROUTE RUNNING

Route running is the clear standout trait in Stowers’ profile and the primary reason to invest draft capital. Operating predominantly as a big slot (66% alignment), he leverages his quarterback background to dissect zone coverages with elite awareness and feel. His twitchiness at the route stem is rare for the position. He sinks his hips violently and explodes out of breaks, creating instant separation that mimics a true wide receiver. The production backs the film: Stowers posted 2.55 yards per route run, ranking in the top 3% of FBS receivers. He consistently beats man coverage with nuanced footwork and finds soft spots against zone, making him one of the most reliable separators in the class.

YARDS AFTER CATCH

Stowers is above average with his yards after catch ability with his quickness. He has a good ability to follow blocks and we liked that Vanderbilt schemed up plays for him like shovel passes to take advantage of his skillset here.

ATHLETICISM

Stowers is a functional athlete with respectable speed and burst, but he lacks the elite size-speed combination that defines top-tier fantasy tight ends. He does not possess the vertical burn to consistently threaten linebackers deep, nor the mass to overwhelm safeties in space. His movement skills are clean and effective within the route structure, but he profiles more as a scheme-specific mover than a freakish athlete who elevates any offense.

BLOCKING

Blocking is a significant weakness that could limit Stowers’ snap share at the next level. Despite his size, he struggles to displace or sustain blocks, earning a poor 51.2 PFF run-blocking grade. He lacks the anchor and physicality to hold up inline consistently and is often moved off his spot by engaged defenders. In the NFL, tight ends who cannot contribute meaningfully in the run game frequently see reduced roles, restricting route volume and fantasy opportunity.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

Despite the John Mackey Award recognition and consensus hype, we remain lower on Stowers than the market. His elite route-running ability and separation skills give him a translatable NFL role as a move tight end or big slot, but his lack of physicality, contested-catch dominance, and blocking prowess make him a risky bet as a dynasty TE1.

BALL SKILLS

Stowers’ ball skills present a mixed profile that tempers his overall upside. His hands are fairly reliable, evidenced by a low 6% drop rate, but his lighter frame and lack of physicality at the catch point limit his effectiveness in traffic. He posted a concerning 41% contested-catch rate, losing nearly 60% of true 50/50 opportunities. Unlike dominant red-zone tight ends who box out defenders and high-point the ball with authority, Stowers too often allows defenders to disrupt passes through the catch point. His catch radius is solid but not expansive, capping his ceiling as a matchup nightmare in contested situations.

IDEAL TEAM FITS

Stowers will need a coach that can take advantage of his skillset as more of a move tightend or big slot. Sean Payton comes to mind as a perfect match for Stower's skillset.
