RELEASE/ROUTE RUNNING
Caldwell struggles significantly off the line with a very slow release and little burst or quickness. He is not a nuanced route runner and operates within a limited route tree. While he does a nice job dropping his hips, he fails to generate explosion out of breaks, allowing defenders to stay attached. One positive is his ability to use his hands to create separation, showing some savvy in fighting through coverage.
PHYSICALITY
Caldwell uses his hands well to battle defenders, particularly against press coverage. He shows willingness and effectiveness as a blocker, adding some value in that phase. However, he doesn’t always maximize his size in contested situations, failing to consistently position himself to win at the catch point.
YARDS AFTER CATCH
Limited by his athletic profile, Caldwell doesn’t offer much after the catch. While he can fight through occasional contact, he lacks the burst, quickness, and speed to consistently create extra yardage or generate big plays in space.

ATHLETICISM
This is his claim to fame after a monster performance at the NFL Combine. He does have the speed to run by flat-footed defenders. However, Caldwell lacks burst off the line and takes time to build up to his top speed. He appears labored as a mover at times, with minimal explosiveness both in his release and through breaks. The film tells a different story than the Combine, unfortunately.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Caldwell’s profile is built around his considerable top speed, strong frame, and huge catch radius. However, his lack of functional burst and quickness caps his upside. He has an extremely limited route tree, and profiles as a sacrificial X receiver at the next level. And a backup one at that. It it difficult to project any meaningful volume.
BALL SKILLS
Caldwell consistently caught the ball away from his frame and presented a big target for his quarterback. He displays good body control, especially adjusting to throws over the middle, and his catch radius is huge. His 10.1% career drop rate is a concern, as is his 42.6% contested catch rate.

IDEAL TEAM FITS

His best team fit is with a team needing a receiving weapon in the red zone where he can utilize his hands and catch radius. Teams like the broncos, ravens, and browns come to mind.
