Recliner Rating:

VISION/PATIENCE

Black shows good overall vision, consistently reading blocks and finding the correct lane. He demonstrates a solid understanding of run design and will take what’s available rather than forcing plays. While he flashes a nice stutter step behind the line, he doesn’t create much on his own behind the line of scrimmage. His patience is solid allowing him tol get what is blocked for him.

POWER/CONTACT BALANCE

Black shows decent contact balance against lighter contact, keeping his feet through arm tackles and leg grabs. He runs with a generally solid pad level, though he can get upright at times. While his power improved on further evaluation, he still goes down too easily and doesn’t consistently break tackles.

3RD DOWN SKILLSET

Black is a willing blocker but lacks the functional strength to consistently hold up in pass protection. As a receiver, he has solid hands and can align out wide or in the slot, but his route running is limited and undeveloped. Despite his athleticism, he doesn’t create much after the catch, making his impact in the passing game fairly modest.

ATHLETICISM

This is his standout trait. Black has excellent burst and acceleration, often looking like he’s shot out of a cannon. He has solid long speed and can take it the distance when given a clear lane. He isn’t as quick laterally as you would expect for someone his size with his burst.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

He is an explosive, big-play runner whose value is built on burst and solid vision. He lacks elusiveness, power, and third-down production which limits his overall profile. He projects best as a change-of-pace back who can capitalize on open lanes and generate chunk plays rather than handling a full workload. He is a player we will avoid in drafts.

ELUSIVENESS

His elusiveness is more subtle than dynamic. He has a serviceable stutter step and occasional juke, but struggles to string moves together, particularly at the second level. He lacks a deep arsenal of moves and often absorbs direct contact rather than making defenders miss. Given his size, his elusiveness is a disappointment.

IDEAL TEAM FITS

Black's best fit is on a team that needs a dynamic skat back, as opposed to a big power back.
