MENTAL GAME

Altmyer is more effective when reacting within structure rather than working through full-field reads. He shows patience and can identify certain looks, but he often holds the ball too long, allowing defenders to close throwing windows. This issue was more pronounced against stronger competition. He functions best in quick-game and play-action concepts, though his overall processing speed and anticipation will need to improve for NFL viability.

ARM TALENT

Altmyer possesses average arm strength. He is capable of making routine throws but struggles to consistently drive the ball downfield. His accuracy declines as depth increases, limiting his effectiveness in vertical concepts. While he shows solid placement on short routes, particularly curls, he requires clean mechanics and a stable base to maximize velocity, which reduces his margin for error under pressure.

RUSHING/MOBILITY

Altmyer offers functional mobility, with more quickness than long speed. He can surprise pass rushers by stepping up through interior lanes and picking up modest yardage. However, he lacks the athleticism to consistently escape outside the pocket or generate explosive plays as a runner. While not a liability, his mobility does not significantly elevate his overall profile.

MANAGEMENT

Altmyer operated comfortably within the structure and was a stabilizing presence for Illinois. He generally executes the offense as designed, and avoids excessive negative plays. However, he must improve his internal clock and anticipation, particularly against defenses that rotate post-snap. The frequency with which defenders are able to contest his throws highlights the need for faster decision-making.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

Altmyer projects as a limited fantasy option with little pathway to relevance. He lacks both the rushing upside and high-end passing traits needed to overcome his deficiencies. While he is a competent college quarterback, his skill set does not translate into meaningful NFL or fantasy upside. He is best left undrafted in rookie formats and off dynasty rosters.

SUBTLE ARTS

Ball placement is a consistent concern. Receivers are often forced to adjust to off-target throws, limiting yards after the catch and overall efficiency. His timing can be inconsistent, and he occasionally locks onto primary targets rather than progressing through options. These issues, combined with average mechanics, contribute to a lack of precision in his passing profile.

IDEAL TEAM FITS

If Altmyer is able to find a way onto the field, which does not seem likely, his best path to success is on a team that operates a quick rpo style offense asking him to make quick and simple reads.
