Recliner Rating:

RELEASE/ROUTE RUNNING

Route running is a major concern for Fields. He lacks the quickness and nuance to consistently create separation, with limitations evident on both short-to-intermediate and deep patterns. While he hand-fights effectively at the release and can generate early advantages off the line, sustained separation is rare. He does, however, show good zone awareness, finding soft spots and presenting a viable target when coverage loosens.

PHYSICALITY

Fields plays with expected physicality for his size, particularly as a willing and effective run blocker and after the catch. That said, he is not the route-stem bully that some other big receivers in this class are. He competes but does not consistently impose his will through contact in stem phases.

YARDS AFTER CATCH

Fields performed better than expected in this area. Notre Dame frequently schemed wide receiver screens to him, and he excels at following blocks while bringing physicality that makes him tough for smaller defenders to bring down. He does not win with elusiveness but consistently falls forward, squeezing out additional yardage.

ATHLETICISM

Fields possesses above-average straight-line speed once he builds momentum with long strides. However, he lacks quickness and lateral agility, appearing heavy-footed in and out of breaks, which significantly hinders his route-running effectiveness.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

His elite ball skills and ability to win contested catches give him a path to a roster at the NFL level, but as a late declare with significant route-running limitations, we do not project meaningful near-term fantasy impact. We recommend avoiding him in rookie drafts until the fourth round or later.

BALL SKILLS

Fields displays excellent ball skills across his tape and this is by far his strongest trait and the primary reason he will earn an NFL roster spot. Roughly 37% of his catches were contested, with a contested-catch rate around 47%. He maximizes his 6’4” frame to pluck the ball away from his body, producing an impressive highlight reel of one-handed and spectacular grabs in traffic.

IDEAL TEAM FITS

Fields would fit in on a team with a quarterback that is able to take advantage of his contested catch ability on a situational basis. Teams like Cincinati come to mind where fields could be a solid option on 4 wide receiver sets.
