Recliner Rating:

VISION/PATIENCE

Washington demonstrates strong patience and vision behind the line of scrimmage. He excels at flowing with his blockers, waiting for holes to develop, and follows his pulling guards effectively. He also showed the discipline to stay with his line until a crease opened, then burst upfield for nice pickups. His ability to read and set up defenders at the second level adds to his effectiveness in this area helping him break off long runs.

POWER/CONTACT BALANCE

He brings excellent power to his runs, capable of stiff-arming defenders and accelerating through arm tackles. His contact balance is very good and he is able to stay on his feet after initial contact more often than not. He consistently finishes falling forward and seems to relish punishing defenders.

3RD DOWN SKILLSET

In the passing game, he projects best on swing passes and screens, where his speed and burst allow him to get to the perimeter and create after the catch. Overall, he is solid but not elite as a receiver showing functional hands and natural running ability, though he lacks a diverse route tree or advanced receiving traits. It must be noted that in pass protection he was awful which is backed up by his abysmal PFF grading. This is something that could keep him off the field on 3rd downs.

ATHLETICISM

This was a standout trait on tape for Washington. He moves exceptionally well for his size. His speed, burst, and quickness are all above average, allowing him to hit holes explosively and defeat angles from safeties. His tape was an extremely fun watch because of how fluid and dynamic he looks at 228 pounds, with the ability to high-step over diving tacklers and change direction effectively for a bigger back

FANTASY OUTLOOK

We really enjoyed Washington's tape as he has a rare combination of size and athleticism for the position. Although his pass protection will likely keep him off the field on 3rd downs, his combination of athleticism and power should lead to an impactful role on 1st and 2nd downs at the next level if he has a good landing spot. We would consider drafting him after the mid 2nd round of rookie drafts.

ELUSIVENESS

For his size, he displays impressive elusiveness in tight spaces. He effectively “gets skinny” through narrow gaps and executes impressive double-legged jump cuts. He shows the ability to string multiple moves together. While he lacks the sharp, one-legged cuts typical of smaller backs (expected at his frame), his movement skills allow him to create when little is blocked.

IDEAL TEAM FITS

Washington would fit best on a team needing a 1st and 2nd down workhorse back. Houston comes to mind as they have Woody Marks as an exceptional 3rd down back already to compliment Washington.
