Recliner Rating:

VISION/PATIENCE

McGowan is a decisive, one-cut runner. While he consistently chooses the correct read and diagnoses lanes quickly, he can occasionally be impatient, darting off before his blocks have fully developed. McGowen did show a good ability to manufacture his own yardage, showing good reflexes and instincts to make something out of nothing.

POWER/CONTACT BALANCE

McGowan’s power profile is a point of contention; while he has the size of a prototypical power back, he doesn't always convert his speed to power at the rate expected for his weight. He displays solid contact balance and a good pad level, occasionally finishing runs violently when he can build up a full head of steam. Often though, he can be prone to going down on first contact at the line of scrimmage if defenders get a hand on him before he reaches the second level.

3RD DOWN SKILLSET

McGowen was not a prospect that excelled in 3rd down usage. He is dangerous in space where he can use his speed and elusiveness after the catch, however hands were a real issue for him. Concentration drops plagued his tape, and even the balls he caught he was prone to double clutching. When it came to his pass blocking, McGowen struggled to identify edge rushers, and did not hold up in protection even with a bigger frame.

ATHLETICISM

The standout feature of McGowan’s profile is his high-end athleticism, highlighted by a 4.49-second 40-yard dash and an explosive 42-inch vertical jump at the NFL Combine. This pure physical talent allows him to be a constant home-run threat. His combination of size and speed makes him an intriguing, albeit older, dynasty asset.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

He remains one of the most polarizing prospects in the 2026 class, possessing freak athletic traits, but is hampered by a complex and aging profile. McGowen shows flashes of high-end elusiveness and vision, but his utility is severely limited by an "abysmal" third-down skillset, and a lack of power. He is best viewed as a late Day 3 NFL pick and a fourth-round rookie dart throw.

ELUSIVENESS

At 223 pounds, McGowan possesses surprising elusiveness and the ability to string multiple moves together. He is particularly effective at making defenders miss in tight spaces, utilizing jump cuts and double leg cuts. However, he is primarily a one-speed runner who lacks the elite throttle control found in top-tier prospects.

IDEAL TEAM FITS

McGowan's one cut ability lines best with a zone running scheme and we can envision him as a backup in Shannahan's system.
