Simpson is generating first-round NFL Draft buzz, but the tape tells a much different story. Between inconsistent processing, alarming post-snap recognition, and merely adequate arm talent, dynasty managers might be making a massive mistake drafting him early.

Mental Game & Processing
Simpson is severely limited as a processor right now. He operates primarily as a half-field reader on pre-called concepts and struggles significantly when defenses rotate coverages post-snap. Our scouts gave him dismal grades for his progressions (ranging from a 5 to 5.5), noting that he routinely stares down his primary target, regardless of whether the receiver is covered or not. While he flashed occasional anticipation on layered throws over the middle of the field—particularly against Tennessee and Georgia—these high-level processing moments were few and far between. At the NFL level, defensive backs will easily read his eyes, putting him at high risk for turnovers.
Arm Talent & Accuracy
Simpson’s surface-level metrics—an 81.4 pass grade and a 75.3% adjusted completion percentage—point to good arm talent, but the film paints the picture of an average college arm. He possesses sufficient zip in the short-to-intermediate areas of the field and boasts mechanically sound footwork while kept clean in the pocket (earning mechanics grades between 7 and 9). However, his deep ball tends to flutter and hang in the air, and his overall accuracy graded out at a lackluster 6 to 6.5. Furthermore, when forced off-platform or on the run, his mechanics deteriorate rapidly, resulting in dirted passes and poor ball placement that leaves yards on the field.
Rushing & Mobility
If you are looking for the next fantasy football cheat code at quarterback, Simpson isn't your guy. He posted an uninspiring 68.2 rush grade and earned a lowly 4 out of 10 for his rushing acumen from our scouts. While he has enough straight-line speed to exploit open rushing lanes and outrun defensive linemen to the boundary, he lacks elusiveness and power. He won't make defenders miss in space or break tackles head-on. He offers adequate escapability to avoid sacks and pick up occasional first downs, but he will not provide the rushing baseline required to elevate his fantasy ceiling.
The Verdict Ty Simpson is a mechanically sound but underdeveloped prospect who relies heavily on pre-determined, half-field reads and lacks the elite physical traits needed to compensate for his poor processing. Drafting him in the first round of your dynasty rookie drafts is a major risk not worth taking.
