Jordyn Tyson Scouting Report: Is He the WR1 for 2026 NFL Draft?

The 2026 wide receiver class has a new frontrunner. Jordyn Tyson entered the 2025 season with high expectations, and despite missing time, his nine-game sample size at Arizona State was electric enough to cement him at the top of many dynasty boards. With Matt Cooper out, Matt Jackson and Matt Rupert break down the film on the 6'2", 200 lb playmaker to answer the ultimate question: Is Jordyn Tyson the clear-cut WR1?

"Always Open": Route Running & Release

Jordyn Tyson is a technician who wins with elite suddenness. We awarded him an 8/10 for his release package, noting that he effectively uses both his hands and feet to defeat press coverage instantly. He possesses a rare "twitchiness" for a receiver of his size (6'2", 200 lbs), allowing him to stack defenders quickly and create immediate windows for his quarterback.

His ability to separate in the short-to-intermediate area drew comparisons to Jaxon Smith-Njigba—a player who is simply "always open." We graded his short/intermediate route running at an 8.5/10, highlighting his ability to sink his hips violently and explode out of breaks. Whether it's a quick hitch, a slant, or a double move deep downfield, Tyson creates separation at will, making him a quarterback's best friend. PFF data backs this up, awarding him an 85.9 receiving grade, the 9th best in the FBS.

Acrobatic Ball Skills

While his route running creates the window, his ball skills finish the play. Tyson posted a phenomenal 1.6% drop rate in 2025, dropping just a single pass on 97 targets. We graded his hands at an 8/10 and his body control at an 8/10, describing him as "hang-gliding" like a gazelle to high-point the football.

The only slight knock on his profile was a 7.5/10 for contested catches, though context is crucial here. Many of his "contested" situations were the result of poor quarterback play forcing him to adjust to underthrown balls or reach around defenders on inside throws. Despite this, he still wins with physicality and late hands, showing a knack for toe-tapping along the sideline and erasing bad throws.

The "Golden Recipe": YAC & Athleticism

Tate isn't just a possession receiver; he is a weapon with the ball in his hands. We graded his YAC ability at an 8/10, noting his instincts to feel defenders closing in and spin out of contact before he even fully turns upfield. He possesses a deadly stiff arm and the contact balance to drag defenders for extra yardage.

Statistically, he averaged a solid 4.3 yards after the catch per reception, but that number skyrockets to 8.4 yards after catch on targets behind the line of scrimmage. This indicates that when an offense manufactures touches for him—screens, swing passes, quick outs—he is explosive enough to create chunk plays on his own. Combined with 8.5/10 grades for burst and quickness, Tyson offers the "golden recipe" for PPR scoring: he gets open early for volume and creates yardage late for upside.

The Verdict

Jordyn Tyson is a complete prospect with virtually no holes in his game. With a Composite Film Grade exceeding 80.0, he sits firmly in our "Elite Fantasy Producer" tier. He is a twitchy, physical alpha receiver who projects as a Top-15 NFL Draft pick. In dynasty rookie drafts, he is currently our WR1, offering a blend of safety and ceiling that is unmatched in this class.
