The latest episode of the Couch Scouts podcast explores whether Indiana's Omar Cooper Jr. is the hidden gem of the 2026 class. Route Running & Versatility

Cooper primarily operated as a "big slot" at Indiana, taking 83% of his snaps from the inside. His route tree is remarkably diverse; while he excelled on screens (28%), he also feasted on out routes (17%) and deep posts (16%). Scouts gave him an 8.5 grade for deep route running, noting his ability to sink his hips and change direction on a dime, often leaving defensive backs "lost" at the stem of his routes. He finished with a 2.5 yards per route run, ranking 36th among all FBS receivers.

Ball Skills & Body Control

The standout trait of Cooper’s film is his Body Control (9.0 grade). He demonstrated an elite ability to contort his frame mid-air, highlighted by a game-winning toe-tap touchdown against Penn State. While he has a slightly limited catch radius due to a 6'0" frame, his hands are exceptionally strong, posting a low 4.2% drop rate on 91 targets. He is a reliable "plucker" who attacks the ball away from his body rather than letting it get into his chest.

Athleticism & Production

Cooper's physical profile is NFL-ready, measuring 6'0" and 199 pounds while clocking a 4.42 40-yard dash. His senior season production was elite, totaling 69 receptions for 937 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also proved to be a threat after the catch, recording multiple rushing touchdowns throughout his career. His overall PFF receiving grade of 86 ranked 11th among all FBS wide receivers with at least 50 targets.

The Verdict

Omar Cooper Jr. earns a final scout grade of 78.65, placing him firmly within the top five wide receivers of the 2026 class. He is a refined, athletic slot weapon with elite body control who should be a priority target in dynasty rookie drafts.
