Recliner Rating:

RELEASE/ROUTE RUNNING

Despite heavy slot usage, Cooper’s route tree is remarkably diverse. He excelled on his deep route running and we love his ability to sink his hips violently and change direction on a dime, frequently leaving defensive backs disoriented at the stem. He finished with 2.5 yards per route run, ranking 36th among all FBS receivers, showcasing both efficiency and the ability to stretch defenses vertically from the slot.

PHYSICALITY

Physicality was a plus trait for Cooper, especially once he had the ball in his hands. It also shows in his route running via effective hand fighting and leverage against press, as well as in contested catches where he competes aggressively. Very physical cornerbacks can occasionally overpower him at the line or disrupt his stem, but overall he plays bigger and more assertively than his listed size suggests.

YARDS AFTER CATCH

This is arguably the best trait that Cooper posseses. He proved to be a legitimate threat in space, recording multiple rushing touchdowns throughout his career and consistently turning short passes into chunk gains. His contact balance and ability to stay on his feet rivals that of many top running backs.

ATHLETICISM

Cooper brings an NFL-ready physical profile at 6'0" and 199 pounds, backed by a 4.42 40-yard dash. His acceleration and change-of-direction quickness translate seamlessly to route stems and after the catch.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

Cooper is a refined, athletic slot weapon with elite body control who should be a priority target in dynasty rookie drafts in the later part of the 1st round.

BALL SKILLS

Body control is the defining trait on Cooper’s tape, earning a near-perfect 9.0 grade from us. He consistently contorts his frame mid-air to make difficult catches, highlighted by a game-winning toe-tap touchdown against Penn State. While his 6'0" frame slightly limits his catch radius, his hands are exceptionally strong. He attacks the ball away from his body rather than letting it into his chest, posting a low 4.2% drop rate across 91 targets. He is a reliable plucker who wins with technique and composure at the catch point.

IDEAL TEAM FITS

I would like to see Cooper in system that can take advantage of his deep route running off of play action passing. A Stefanksi or Shannahan style system seems like a perfect fit for his skillset.
