Route Running & Separation
When it comes to route running, Concepcion stands out as arguably the best in the class. He earned a 9/10 grade for his short and intermediate routes on rewatch, showcasing crisp footwork and the rare ability to literally put defenders on the ground with his sharp breaks. We also have to dispel the narrative that he struggles against zone coverage; Concepcion posted a 78.5 receiving grade against zone this year, ranking tenth best in the entire FBS. On the other hand, Tyson is a twitchy, bursty runner who wins with quickness, but he often gets jammed up and fails to create separation against physical press coverage.
Ball Skills & Hands
Tyson undeniably has the safer hands, boasting a stellar 1.6% drop rate and a massive catch radius that allows him to contort his body and catch the ball away from his frame. Concepcion's hands are a work in progress, evidenced by his 10.3% drop rate and occasional technique flaws like basket catching or clapping at the ball. However, Concepcion still flashes incredible potential on tough catches at full extension, leading us to give him a 5.5/10 hands grade with the belief that his technique issues can be cleaned up with NFL coaching.
Physicality & Contested Catch
Despite being the smaller prospect, Concepcion plays with significantly more edge and competitiveness. He logged an impressive 66.7% contested catch rate and consistently took big shots over the middle of the field while holding onto the football. Conversely, Tyson struggles with competitive toughness at the catch point and was graded at a 6.5/10 for both contested catches and physicality. Tyson's 43.4% contested catch rate highlights his tendency to get bullied rather than be the bully, making his play strength closer to a weakness than a strength.
The Verdict While both receivers sit nearly identical in our Recliner Ratings, Tyson's lingering injury flags and lack of competitive toughness at the catch point give Concepcion the slight edge in our dynasty rankings.
